His sensitive eyes always manage to express the Monster’s feelings. In Bride of Frankenstein, we see that the monster (once again played by Boris Karloff) survived ... that sought perfection in every discernible way and provided a much deeper and more poignant look at the monster of Frankenstein's creation - the comedic exploitation of the monster did not begin on his watch. James Whale and cinematographer John D. Mescall proved that the lessons of German expressionist cinema had not been entirely forgotten. Aside from the striking visuals and fairly novel world, the short also gives off a bit of an Alien vibe. I was hoping for more of the "Flash Gordon" type music from the old B&W serials with Buster Crabbe. The mate turns out to be the most frightening and distinctively weird female image in the history of cinema.
