While I agree with the ideas presented in this book for how to improve the role of the presidency, I think it is still a bit too idealistic. Dickerson has been a reporter in Washington for almost 20 years covering the White House, Congress and political campaigns. Trumpocalypse: Restoring American Democracy It presents a side and evolution of the job that I had yet to consider and gave me a lot to chew on.

There is a lot of ground to cover in this book.

Fair warning that the third (and final) section is Trump-heavy, but for the purposes of analysis so I was fine with it. The book is easy to read, full of presidential anecdotes, and examples.

I found this book making me question how the job has changed and if it can go back in any ways.

There is so historical perspective and analysis of where the office is today. I've read biographies of Washington, Jefferson, Grant, GHWB, and others by the likes of Chernow and Meacham.

I've been doing a lot of presidential reading, and this is far and away the most interesting one I've come across in months. The book is easy to read, full of presidential anecdotes, and examples.

One of the problems is that it has become so hard and unmanageable.I liked the book overall.
