There are so many different situations described that it really allowed me to think about what it was like for each of these people and the motivations behind their actions. It is easy to think of the plantation, and so that is the image that people tend to have. It also provides interesting insight into Southern whites who were not slave owners, and how becoming a slave owner increased their standing in the community.A very insightful attempt to describe the attitudes that slave owners had towards potential black purchases.
